In the six months following the fraud liability shift associated with EMV, the payments industry has seen slow but steady growth in merchant EMV acceptance. A study by Business Wire Magazine shows over one-third of U.S. merchants are now estimated to be EMV ready. As up to 60 percent of U.S. credit cards and 30 percent of debit cards are already converted to EMV, the pressure on merchants to implement EMV is only growing. And with more customers becoming accustomed to using chip cards and more merchants becoming informed about the liability shift for fraud-related chargebacks, EMV adoption in the U.S. is well underway.
