Can You Prove Your Commitment To Cloud Security With Compliance Standards?

By Pradeep Gowtham, Sr. Product Support Engineer, Vembu Technologies

Managed services providers (MSPs) can host companies or access providers that offer IT services. These services can include fully outsourced network management arrangements, such as IP telephony, messaging and call center management, virtual private networks (VPNs), managed firewalls, and monitoring/reporting of network servers. So, in all aspects of the service, the client data is saved or managed over the Internet to reach the MSP. MSPs need to know how to keep the client data safe while it is saved in their environment.

In several North American and European countries, there are certain laws in which an MSP has to fulfill all the criteria to enable their service in the respective territory. Currently, many MSPs host their servers for saving client data in the cloud, as the price for the cloud storage has been drastically decreased. With increased cloud storage usage, cloud vendors have formulated certain standards and security procedures. Once an MSP has passed these security procedures, the client will have a greater trust of the MSP for handling their data. In this case, the MSP understands how important it is to adhere to cloud securities standards and the laws and compliance present in their respective territories.

Managed services can also add a great deal of benefits and expertise to making applications, data, and business more resilient, once the MSP has the data audited by SSAE (Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements) 16 or Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) 70 and it is HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) or PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliant.
