Increased data storage demands from 3,500 teachers and students, combined with ambitious expansion plans, meant that simply adding servers to boost storage capacity was no longer economically viable. The college needed a new storage infrastructure to support future growth and enable it to cost-efficiently structure both staff and student data in a way that would keep the data easy to access. Reliability was also central to the decision as information saved on the system is often critical to students and teachers for exams and ongoing coursework.

Bishop Burton College sought a data storage architecture that would be able to economically scale to support its data management requirements while providing the flexibility needed to allocate storage according to different user needs. The Plug-and-play SAN Kit for Hitachi TagmaStore Modular Storage made it possible to do just that. It increased Bishop Burton College's storage capacity from 60GB to 4,000GB, enabling storage capacity to be centrally managed and lowering total cost of ownership (TCO).
