Microsoft maintains a strong position with enterprise-class device deployments and will remain a viable contender — unlike analog TV. But the Android OS is now making significant inroads into the enterprise market after shipping nearly 80 percent of consumer devices in 2013. This is forcing businesses to entertain a decision they haven’t had to make for a decade or longer. Which OS is right for them? And like that cable TV salesperson in the early days who espoused the benefits of a new way to watch TV for a low monthly fee, today’s enterprise computing sales teams are engaging in similar discussions with customers. In fact, many of the same rationales apply for making a change to this newer offering.
While the enterprise mobile computing market remains entrenched in Microsoft OS offerings, Android’s consumer success has validated its viability and consequently influenced businesses to adopt Android for a number of reasons.
