Revenge Of The Zombie Clauses

By Greg Pierce, Chief Cloud Officer, Concerto Cloud Services

This past Sunday was (as most of us are aware) Valentine’s Day. It’s a time many look forward to great dinners, nights out, and quality time with our significant others.

For science fiction fans, the excitement was about something else entirely. Sunday marked the mid-season premiere of The Walking Dead. For those of you who are not aware, the show revolves around a post-apocalyptic world where zombies attacking the living is the new normal. It’s fun entertainment and has shown up in popular culture such as World War Z and I Am Legend.

Another interesting place it has shown up is in Amazon’s AWS Service Terms. Section 57.10 states, in part: “The Lumberyard Materials are not intended for use with life-critical or safety-critical systems… However, this restriction will not apply in the event of the occurrence (certified by the United States Centers for Disease Control or successor body) of a widespread viral infection transmitted via bites or contact with bodily fluids that causes human corpses to reanimate and seek to consume living human flesh, blood, brain or nerve tissue and is likely to result in the fall of organized civilization.”
