Where Are They Now? FishNet Security (March 2010)

By The Business Solutions Network

In our March 2010 issue, we featured FishNet Security, a large security VAR that was projecting 15% growth by the end of the year due in part to offering virtualization and wireless solutions and adding new employees. (Check out, “Simplify Your Security Offerings To Spur Sales”). I caught up with Gary Fish, founder and CEO of FishNet Security, to see how the reseller was tracking. Following are his responses.

McCall: How has your business fared since we last spoke with you?
Fish: FishNet Security fared very well last year. Our year-over-year revenue growth was 34%, with 2011 revenue exceeding $422 million.

McCall: What has contributed most to your success over the past two years?
Fish: We've been focusing on areas of high growth in information security: mobile security, cloud computing, and, most recently, identity and access management (IAM).

McCall: Are there any new technologies/solutions you're offering, which are impacting your business?
Fish: FishNet Security acquired Logic Trends LLC in December 2011. This acquisition brings a great amount of expertise in identity and access management (IAM) and healthcare solutions under the FishNet Security brand. Cloud computing is becoming increasingly popular, so we're seeing an uptick in that area as well.

In addition, we brought a new service called ThreatDetect to the market in early 2012. This is a new cloud-based threat monitoring and response service that enables businesses to accurately log information security events across multiple sources.

McCall: Speak to any changes you’ve had to make to your business and/or tips you can offer that are contributing to your success
Fish: Because of our rapid sales growth, we’ve needed to be aggressive about hiring support and other personnel quickly enough to ensure we can deliver on our promises to our clients. We believe we’ve done a good job of that.

We try to be an innovator in the industry, rather than a follower. Our management team has become very good at seeing trends in the information security industry and reacting to them to ensure we can deliver solutions in areas with the most demand. We’re not going to be complacent with our position in the industry. If you’re not growing, someone else is.
