The Voices In Your Head Are Lying: IP Video *Is* For You
During a recent security-related conference, one of the speakers said to the audience that if they couldn't "speak IT" they wouldn't last very long in today's sales conversations. So true, however, I'm not sure if many IT integrators really understand how strong their position is -- or could be.
Here's Another Way To Justify The Cost Of IP Cameras
If you've got customers with junky old analog CCTV surveillance systems looking to upgrade to IP, but cost is a factor, you should take a look at 360-degree panoramic cameras. Why? Imagine one megapixel camera mounted in the center of a room that captures video in all directions. Unaltered, these cameras produce recorded video that looks like a mirror ball (i.e. a sphere of warped video). However, after image correction (de-warping the video) and splitting it in the VMS software, that one camera can produce the video capture equivalent of 4 separate cameras!
Does Your Customer's Video Surveillance Pass This Test?
While at the Mobotix partner conference earlier this week, attendees got a crash course in video quality. If you aren't hip to the latest in video surveillance, you might be in for a shock. According to Dr. Magnus Ekerot, CEO USA for Mobotix, 90% of today's surveillance recordings are in CIF format. That is, 288 lines of resolution. If you're wondering what valuable evidence you can capture at that resolution, it isn't much.
IP Video: A Technology You -- And Your Customers -- Will Love
Today, I spent the day surrounded by current and future Mobotix integrator partners. If you don't already know, Mobotix is a manufacturer of IP video cameras and related solutions. One thing that really struck me in speaking with various partners is that there's a definite level of excitement that comes across when they speak. I often don't find such enthusiasm when I talk with resellers of other technologies. So, what's different?
If You're An MSP, You Can Sell IP Video Surveillance Too
Today I spoke with a managed services provider who was looking a few years ago to expand his line card. After examining all the opportunities out there, he settled on adding IP video surveillance solutions. Today, some three years later, IP video makes up 25% of the MSP's revenue and he's experiencing a 50% increase in profits (35% coming from IP video).
Where Retailers Are Spending Their IT Budgets In 2013
NRF's Big Show, the retail industries aptly named expo, is just around the corner. In anticipation of the event, I've been receiving briefings from various manufacturers and have been given hints at new products that will be announced at the show next month.
Round 2: IT Editor vs. PTZ Dome IP Video Camera
VAR and integrator readers of Business Solutions magazine who are outside the video surveillance space often ask me how easy or difficult it is to install the latest IP video cameras. To answer the question, I've been playing around with some Axis IP cameras.
Horse, Meet Water: Stubborn IT VARs Could Miss IP Video Opportunities
Since I’ve been beating the “IP video surveillance should be on your line card” drum for the last year, I’m always happy to come across proof that we’re on the right track. A couple of weeks ago, IMS Research, the leading analyst firm when it comes to the security industry, issued a press release regarding its new report “Security Systems Integration – World – 2012,” which makes me feel very good about the things I've been writing.
An IT Editor Takes On An IP Video Camera
VAR and integrator readers of Business Solutions magazine who are outside the video surveillance space often ask me how easy or difficult it is to install the latest IP video cameras. To answer the question, I requested a bunch of cameras from Axis Communications, who came through in a big way.
Lies You Tell Yourself About IP Video
Unless you're new to Business Solutions magazine, you know we've been on a crusade the past 18 months or so educating VARs and integrators on the great opportunity that is IP video surveillance. Some have embraced our recommendation, others have been skeptical and are holding off.
