Each month, Business Solutions collects and sorts through all the relevant channel news so you don't have to. This month in Data Collection and Mobility, a survey shows mobile technology could decrease costs for transport and logistics companies, a mobile computer receives AT&T certification, and an upgrade is now available for a management solution.

Mobile Technology For Transport, Logistics Is Growing Opportunity For VARs

A survey commissioned by Intermec, a data capture and information management solutions company, revealed that transport and logistics companies could save approximately $459,000 per year through process re-engineering and the implementation of mobile technology. The survey sampled 375 transport and logistics managers at organizations with more than 500 employees within the U.K., France, Germany, USA, Australia, and New Zealand.

The survey shows more than 39 percent of companies have not initiated changes to workflows and technologies (process re-engineering) in the past year, and of these companies, 72 percent have not evaluated their existing processes for at least two years. Of those who have not automated processes, nearly 40 percent cite a lack of business need, and 33 percent attribute cost as the key reasons for not doing so.

CipherLab Mobile Computer Receives AT&T Certification

CipherLab announced its CP60 mobile computer received AT&T certification for the computer’s high-speed downlink packet access/high-speed uplink packet access. The certification gives the CP60 access to AT&T’s wireless and broadband service. The handheld is also armed with additional wireless tools: 4G high speed packet access plus (HSPA+), Cisco compatible extension (CCX) v4 (certified 802.11 a/b/g/n), and Bluetooth V2.1 with enhanced data rate.

Honeywell Upgrades MDM Solution

Honeywell’s Remote MasterMind 4.0 (ReM 4.0) is an extensive upgrade to its integrated mobile and scanning device management solution. The new version allows a single person or group of administrators to manage an entire set of devices from across the enterprise, to track device locations, and to access device metrics and statistics to diagnose issues.

This solution offers enhancements to support employee-owned smart devices. With ReM 4.0, IT managers are able to manage both enterprise-issued devices and personal employee smartphones through one interface. ReM 4.0 also enforces device security by strengthening password protection. Additionally, should a smart device get lost, ReM 4.0 allows IT managers to remotely wipe the device.
