6 IoT Predictions For 2015

Embedded security technologies provider Sansa Security released its top six predicted trends for the Internet of Things (IoT) in 2015, according to a press release:

  • The Rise Of “IoT 2.0.” Sansa Security says 2015 will be the year the interoperability obstacle is overcome.
  • Competition Over Control Of The Connected Home. Third-party compatibility is key.
  • The Birth Of The Home Mesh. A mesh network gives every node the ability to share data with other nodes on the same network. In 2015, Sansa Security predicts technology will allow multiple devices to communication to and through each other using a tablet or smartphone to command them.
  • The Death Of The Password. In 2015, Sansa Security predicts, the password will be superseded by other forms of authentication such as biometrics. Two-factor authentication is becoming more common, combining fingerprint readers with passwords or gesture swipes in a more reliable and secure way to access and protect devices.
  • The First Smart-City IoT Service Aggregator Will Launch. Through this aggregator, all city services from power to water to traffic lights can be linked and run by an intelligent prediction system that leverages Big Data to constantly optimize utilities.
  • Drones Will Make Deliveries Across The Third World. Cargo will include crucial deliveries such as medical supplies and relief aid.

These predictions align with others Business Solutions have reported. The use of smart building technologies is expected to increase. Reliance on usernames and passwords is being replaced by other forms of authentication as a best practice. The benefits of smart city solutions in terms of cost savings and efficiency are recognized. And investigation into healthcare deliveries via drones is under way, with the market expected to grow in the next 10 years.
